Ever wondered why the professionals can do such a neat job of wiring conifers? The answer is because they use annealed copper wire instead of aluminum.

Double annealed copper is as soft and easy as aluminum to apply, but it work-hardens as you coil it around the branch. Each time you bend the branch a little the wire hardens, bend again and it hardens some more, and so on. At maximum strength, copper has approximately 75% more holding power than a similar thickness of aluminum. After a couple of weeks the natural red/brown color will fade to almost black and become virtually invisible on the tree.
